In mid-July 2015, heavy monsoon rains combined with the landfall of Cyclone Komen triggered over a month of intense flooding all across Myanmar. 11 out of 14 of the country’s subdivisions experienced serious issues, with four being declared national emergency zones. In the face of this catastrophe, which uprooted the lives of over 1 million people, our group was eager to join relief efforts and to do whatever we could to help those who had been so horribly affected by the floods. Employees from our four agencies (Mango Media, Mango Marketing, Mangosteen PR and Wave Digital) gathered 4.4 million MMK ($3,431) in donations to deliver to the flooded communities.
On August 4th, 2015, 15 members of Mango Group drove five hours to reach the town of Thonze-Min Hle in Myanmar’s Bago Region to aid local villages in the area. Partnering with an area monastery, our donations were able to give 400 households:
- A sack of rice
- Cooking oil
- Dried fish
- Canned sardines
- Dried lentils
Driving through rice paddies and flooded dirt roads on the way to where our donations were needed, and walking through thigh-high water, Mango’s team was able to both see the devastation that has been wrought on the people of Myanmar, and also hand-deliver the aid that was so desperately needed to the villages in Bago.
Our group was happy to be a part of the move that has spurred all of Myanmar’s communities to join forces to help their afflicted compatriots in rebuilding their damaged livelihoods after this natural disaster.
